A message from AEI President Robert Doar – AEI – American Enterprise Institute: Freedom, Opportunity, Enterprise1st July 2019
Today I start as the 12th president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). I am honored to have been chosen to work with the scholars at AEI, who are dedicated to producing the best empirical research, analysis, commentary, and creative thinking on America’s most important policy challenges.
AEI scholars are animated by the principles of the American founding. Their goal is to foster the traditional role of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. This vision makes it possible for families, communities, legislatures, universities, and businesses to flourish, rather than being ruled by an all-powerful state and having their decisions micromanaged from the top. At AEI, we seek to work within that framework to address the challenges of the 21st century and to come up with concrete, actionable solutions to today’s problems.
We continue to be strong supporters of free markets and American leadership in the world. Those causes are not always fashionable, but they remain as vital as ever. Our scholars will continue to make the case for markets and, when needed, to advocate reforms so markets can work better. To safeguard our interests and our values, they will make the case, too, for a strong defense and foreign policy.
AEI continues to be home to a wide range of people who work on solutions to the nation’s woes. Our scholars will not shy away from tough debates — we are, after all, big believers in the competition of ideas — but we will do also our best to find consensus wherever it can be found.
I welcome you to get involved with AEI — read our publications, subscribe to our newsletters and podcasts, attend our conferences, and financially support our work — and to always let me know how we can be doing better. Thank you for your interest in AEI.
