Are survey data still useful? – AEI – American Enterprise Institute: Freedom, Opportunity, Enterprise11th January 2019
Survey data have been a crucial part of public policy since our country’s founding. We rely on US Census data, especially, to understand who Americans are, what they do, and how they live their lives. And various supplementary surveys inform public policy with insights into Americans’ income, poverty status, and other indications of well-being.
However, many scholars and public policy professionals are moving away from using survey data to inform policy. They cite a lack of reliability and the importance of comparing self-reported data to administrative data.
Join AEI for a discussion, cosponsored with Results for America, of this crucial topic in policymaking, featuring experts on data collection and use, who will debate whether surveys can still be useful and discuss why that matters for policymakers.
